For more than 19 years, Lawrence "Larry" Wit has visited high schools in Lee County to perform "show and tell" lab experiences to kindle students, interest in science and Auburn University. Wit came to Auburn in 1979 as an assistant professor from the University of Missouri, where he earned his doctorate degree in zoology/physiology. Originally from Chicago, Ill., his research and teaching interests include physiological ecology, energetics of foraging, overwintering strategies of ectotherms, and physiological adaptations to unusual environments. He has also written articles as a consultant for The World Book Reference Encyclopedia. Among the awards and accolades at Auburn, Wit has earned Outstanding Faculty Member, Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award, and Professor of the Year. This past spring, he was selected as the university's Last Lecturer by the graduating class of 2009.
