This award is jointly sponsored by the Auburn Alumni Association and the Auburn University Graduate School. The recipients are nominated by dean and department heads and chosen by the Graduate Faculty Council on the basis of excellence in research.
Kimberly Walls
Professor - Music Education
College of Education
Kimberly Walls designed and leads Auburn's graduate distance learning program for practicing music education professionals. She earned her bachelor and masters degrees in music education at Auburn University and her doctorate at Florida State University. Prior to joining the Auburn faculty, she was assistant professor at the University of Texas in San Antonio and has been a band director in Alabama public schools. Because of her expertise in music technology and music teacher education, she has served in a variety of administrative positions with national music organizations. She has also been the recipient of the College of Education Emily and Gerald Leischuck Outstanding Graduate Faculty Teaching Award. Walls' research specialty is applications of technology in music learning. Her scholarly publications have appeared in publications including Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, and Journal of Music Therapy. Current projects include mentoring research school music classrooms, developing an exchange program with Hungarian music educators, and establishing a string music education program for area youth and college students.
