Bruce J. Tatarchuk joined Auburn in 1982 and is now the Charles E. Gavin III Endowed Professor of Chemical Engineering and the director of the Center for Microfibrous Materials
Manufacturing. His research focuses on creating new structures of matter that enhance the chemical reactivity and selectivity of solid surfaces found in catalysts, sorbents, filter media, and electrocatalysts. Tatarchuk has served as principal investigator for more than $41 million of competitive research. His group has generated more than 740 contributions to technical literature and he is an inventor on more than 50 US and foreign patents. He has received numerous awards, most recently receiving the Auburn University SEC Faculty Achievement Award and the Auburn University Excellence in Innovation Award. In 2014, he was elected as a fellow to the National Academy of Inventors. Tatarchuk and his wife, Shawna, have two children who graduated from Auburn: Anna and John.
