Auburn’s College of Human Sciences to recognize Horst Schulze, namesake of its School of Hospitality Management, on Jan. 23

In celebration of a lifelong hospitality icon and to forever link his name with the Auburn University College of Human Sciences, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company Co-founder Horst Schulze will be honored with a naming dedication and ceremony on Monday, Jan. 23, at the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center in recognition of the newly established Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management.
Schulze has been actively engaged with the college and School of Hospitality Management for more than 30 years, and thanks to an anonymous gift, his name, known for excellence, will forever share a permanent bond with the hospitality management program.
“I am excited to support the leadership of Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences and the School of Hospitality Management with two ultimate goals,” said Schulze. “First, to help students develop a love for this industry that I have given my life to, and second, to allow students to gain knowledge and strategies to be successful in their career. Thank you for this incredible gift. I am so grateful.”
The day of celebration will begin with a private faculty breakfast followed by a meet-and-greet lunch with students. The highlight of the day will take place at 3 p.m., as invited guests and key college and university leaders, including President Christopher B. Roberts, Auburn University Board of Trustees President Pro Tempore Bob Dumas, College of Human Sciences Dean Susan Hubbard and Head of the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management Martin O’Neill, celebrate the naming of the Horst Schulze School of Hospitality Management in a ceremony on the third floor of the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center.
“Having the Horst Schulze name associated with our college, knowing his reputation for integrity and professionalism with a focus on excellence, takes the School of Hospitality Management to yet another higher level,” Hubbard said. “This is a gift to our students and faculty and Auburn University as a whole.”
In addition to Auburn University leaders, several of Schulze’s family members and a number of industry leaders who have worked alongside Schulze during his 60-plus year career in the hospitality industry will be on-hand for the special day.
The Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center is located at the corner of East Thach Avenue and South College Street.
