Universities Fighting World Hunger redesigns website to aid campuses in war on hunger

Universities Fighting World Hunger, or UFWH, has rebooted its brand and launched a redesigned website to help university leaders and students committed to solving hunger share best practices across campuses and provide easy access to educational resources.

UFWH started at Auburn University in 2004 in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme and currently involves nearly 300 universities worldwide. The student movement unites all academic disciplines in a collaborative effort to solve hunger.

"With the growth of Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) and the rise in student engagement, our goal for this website is to create a global resource for our student chapters, which now span six continents," said June Henton, founder of UFWH, executive director of the Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn and dean of the College of Human Sciences.

Some new features of the redesigned website, www.ufwh.org, include:

  • A student toolkit that includes a handbook and other materials to help students start a chapter
  • Campaign guidelines for campuses to become a PUSH institution and links to Student Engagement Partners
  • Information about attending the 11th Annual UFWH Summit at the University of Missouri, Feb. 26-27, 2016
  • A platform to share information among chapters and student groups
  • Hunger resources to help students looking to learn more about the causes and solutions to hunger and malnutrition
  • Related media, including blog entries highlighting recent student involvement


While UFWH focuses on student engagement using a whole-of-university model, Presidents United to Solve Hunger, or PUSH, was created to involve university leaders, encouraging them to collectively leverage activities in teaching, research, outreach and student engagement to accelerate solutions to food and nutrition security.

At a ceremony at the United Nations in December, more than 65 university presidents from six continents were recognized as the first to sign the Presidents' Commitment to Food and Nutrition Security, a pledge to work collaboratively to solve hunger and malnutrition. PUSH now has more than 80 signatories.

Auburn's Hunger Solutions Institute provides strategic direction and infrastructure for a number of initiatives, including UFWH, PUSH and End Child Hunger in Alabama.
