A biennial exhibition showcasing the creative work of Auburn University faculty and staff will be open Sept. 28 through Oct. 14 at the university’s Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, located at 901 S. College St.

“SHOWCASE: The Work of Creative Scholarship” is a multidisciplinary exhibition, featuring fine art, applied art and design, performing arts, creative writing and other work from 22 departments across eight of Auburn University’s colleges.

“We believe it is essential to show the depth of individual visions and voices in our global community,” said Fereshteh Rostampour, organizer of this year’s event and professor of lighting and set design in the Department of Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts.

With submissions coming from undergraduates as well as established researchers and artists, Rostampour said the final curation of the exhibition encompasses a cross section of the strongest work in various fields of research, creative scholarship and design practice.

“There are global trends evident in the developing use and sophistication of technology juxtaposed with equally sophisticated manual and traditional art skills including small-scale design, performance art and installation projects,” said Rostampour.

The opening reception of SHOWCASE is set for Sept. 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the museum. This reception includes a cocktail reception at 5 p.m., modern dance solos from 5-6 p.m., an awards ceremony and Mosaic Theatre Company performance from 6-7 p.m. and the exhibit grand opening at 7 p.m.

“I think that the work of the exhibitors selected to participate in the SHOWCASE is representative of the brilliant creative research and scholarship being conducted at our university,” said Rostampour. “It is my hope that, by sharing their work, these artists and researchers will be an inspiration for others to contribute to the development of future work of creative scholarship in the next SHOWCASE.”

In addition to the events on Sept. 28, live performances are scheduled in the museum’s Auditorium and the Grand Gallery and at Telfair Peet Theatre throughout the two weeks of the exhibition. All events are free and open to the public. A complete schedule is available at www.aub.ie/showcase/.
