Auburn University's Huntsville Research Center will host top cyber security professionals from across the nation for the eighth annual National Cyber Summit June 8-9 in the south hall of the Von Braun Center. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle will welcome attendees to kick off the event focused on "Cyber Security across the Life-Cycle."

Planned and executed by the Southeastern Cyber Security Foundation, the two-day summit is hosted by the Auburn University Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and its Huntsville Research Center; Cyber Huntsville; North Alabama Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association; and University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The summit has attracted more than 1,000 military, government, industry and academic cyber security professionals in the past. More than 100 commercial companies are anticipated to attend this year, as well as representatives from numerous Department of Defense organizations and civilian departments and agencies including the Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, National Science Foundation, National Security Agency, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army.

"Cyberspace touches nearly every aspect of our daily lives," said Rodney Robertson, executive director of the Auburn University Huntsville Research Center and chair of the National Cyber Summit. "It's the broadband networks, wireless signals and local area networks in our schools, power grids, and healthcare, financial and business sectors. We are more interconnected through the World Wide Web than at any time in human history. We must secure our cyberspace to ensure that we can continue to grow the nation's economy and protect our way of life."

Speakers include Mike Rogers, former U.S. Representative for Michigan's 8th Congressional District and CNN national security contributor; Jerry Davis, director of the Information Technology Directorate and chief information officer of NASA Ames Research Center; and Lt. Gen. Edward Cardon, commander of the U.S. Army Cyber Command and Second Army.
