Adm. Michael Rogers returns to Auburn as part of Leaders on the Plains series

Retired Adm. Michael Rogers will speak at Auburn University on Friday, Nov. 1, as part of the Leaders on the Plains series, hosted by the McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security.

The event, scheduled from 2-3 p.m. in the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center Grand Hall, 152 Wilmore Drive, is free and open to the public and the entire campus community.

Rogers, a 1981 Auburn business alumnus, retired from the U.S. Navy in 2018 after nearly 37 years of naval service rising to the rank of four-star admiral. He is a former commander of the U.S. Cyber Command and a former director of the National Security Agency.

In a moderated discussion with McCrary Institute Director Frank Cilluffo, Rogers will reflect upon his experiences on campus, in government and in the private sector after a long career devoted to public service. The conversation will span a range of cybersecurity-related issues, including major threat actors, cyber defense, deterrence, other U.S. response measures and the best path forward for the United States and its allies.

“We’re thrilled to have Adm. Rogers, one of the university’s most distinguished alumni, back home on campus for this special event,” said Lt. Gen. Ron Burgess, Auburn University’s executive vice president.

In addition to his Auburn education, Rogers also holds a master’s in national security. He is a distinguished graduate of the National War College and a graduate of highest distinction from the Naval War College. He is also an MIT Seminar XXI fellow and a Harvard Senior Executive in National Security alumnus. 

“It’s a true privilege to have Adm. Rogers here to share his unique insights and professional experience, especially related to the cyber realm,” Cilluffo said of Rogers, who also serves on the McCrary Institute Advisory Board.
