Auburn University’s undergraduate public relations degree program was recently ranked third in the country by Study.com. The ranking is the latest example of the university’s commitment to providing an elevated experience that prepares students for their life and career goals through distinct and engaging programs. Students in Auburn’s public relations program, housed in the School of Communication and Journalism in the College of Liberal Arts, participate in PR campaigns and gain real-world experience through a required internship prior to graduation.

“Something that sets Auburn’s PR program apart are our elective courses. We have everything from governmental affairs, international PR, social media, non-profit,” said Terri Knight, associate director of Auburn’s public relations program. “Our students not only get a PR degree, but they can also learn more about a niche area so they can really make a name for themselves.”

Senior public relations student Tracy Moore said the classroom learning has given her the foundation to be successful after graduation.

“The campaigns class we take during our senior year lets us work with a client, where we identify problems and identify solutions to figure out something that works for the client while giving us an opportunity to use the skills we’ve learned in the classroom,” she said. “It’s a course that puts together everything we learned during our time as students and allows us to work one-on-one with a client like we will in our careers.”

Study.com selected the 30 best schools for public relations degrees based on criteria including curriculum, opportunities for learning outside the classroom and PR-related campus activities.

“Additionally, we examined school and program data provided by the Department of Education to select schools that not only have stellar programs, but are also schools that offer affordable and accessible options for students,” according to the Study.com website.

The site noted that, to be admitted to Auburn’s program, students are required to complete the prerequisite courses, obtain at least 30 hours of credits related to the degree field and submit an essay outlining their goals and potential influence on the public relations field.
