The laboratory of Kenneth Halanych, the Schneller Endowed Chair in the Department of Biological Sciences at Auburn University, has made a discovery that could have widespread implications for how scientists study the function of the human immune system. Led by doctoral student Michael Tassia, the team’s research revealed that humans and their closest invertebrate relatives share core components of their innate immune systems, components that date back more than 500 million years.

A $5 million commitment from Walter S. "Walt" and Virginia E. "Ginger" Woltosz will support the construction of the new Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center at Auburn University. The USA Men's Handball Team will play the Canadian National Team in a three-game series June 9-11 as part of the 2017 Alabama State Games. Matches are scheduled on June 9 from 5-8 p.m. at Auburn University's Student Activities Center; June 10 at 1 p.m. at Northview High School in Dothan; and June 11 from noon-3 p.m. at Auburn's Student Activities Center. All matches are free and open to the public.
