Auburn University students Charles Branch and Madison Gohlke were awarded the 2016-17 SEC Dr Pepper Education Abroad award funding each student's year-long, study abroad programs.

SEC's corporate sponsor, Dr Pepper, donated $100,000 in 2015 to provide study abroad opportunities for SEC students who excel in the classroom, demonstrate financial need and represent non-traditional study abroad participants.

Each SEC university chooses two students to participate in a faculty-led program occurring during either the summer, fall or spring terms of the 2016-17 academic year.

Branch, a native of Dayton, Ohio, is a second-year doctoral student in the counselor education and supervision program in Auburn's College of Education. During his stay in South Korea he will be conducting research on increasing positive emotional intelligence from a multicultural perspective.

Gohlke, a native of Anniston, is a junior studying animal sciences in Auburn's College of Agriculture. She completed her program in the summer of 2016 in Swaziland where she studied field biology, ecology and parasitology.

"Increasing the amount and type of education abroad opportunities available to SEC students has been an SECU goal for more than a decade," said Torie Johnson, executive director of the SECU Academic Initiative. "It's exciting to know that thanks to Dr Pepper's generosity, more SEC students than ever will have a life-changing experience in another part of the world."
