Auburn University's Department of Horticulture is offering seedlings from one of the new Auburn Oaks so fans can have part of the Auburn tradition at home. Proceeds from the sale of the two- to three-foot seedlings, grown from acorns of the College Street tree, go toward the department's academic programs.

Auburn University will host the This is Auburn Speaker Series on Fridays before home football games for fans wanting to learn more about Auburn people, history, sports, programs and research. Formerly the All-Star Lecture, this year's series will feature 13 speakers over the course of eight events during the 2016 football season, with most talks taking place at 3 p.m. at the Auburn Alumni Center, 317 S. College St., in the Goodwin Room. The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center will host the talks on Sept. 16 and Oct. 21, also at 3 p.m.

Jackie Cruz, known as Marisol "Flaca" Gonzales on the Netflix No. 1-rated series "Orange is the New Black," will be the guest speaker for the kickoff of the annual Hispanic Heritage Month at Auburn University on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 6 p.m. in Foy Hall Auditorium. The event, presented by the Cross-Cultural Center for Excellence, is free and open to the public.

The Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities is launching "Dialogues on the Experience of War," a reading-discussion program on World War I and the Vietnam War, in six communities throughout the state. The center was one of 17 recipients of a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, or NEH, for programs that bring perspective and context to the experience of war through the study of literature.
