Auburn's new 'This is Research: Student Symposium 2015' set for April 13

Auburn University will launch its new "This is Research: Student Symposium 2015" on April 13 in the Student Center. The symposium will give Auburn and Auburn Montgomery students an opportunity to share their research university-wide.

More than 300 undergraduate and graduate students will participate through oral presentations, posters and creative scholarship displays.

"This is a great opportunity for students from many disciplines to display the results of their hard work and to interact with fellow researchers," said Jennifer Kerpelman, chair of the 'This is Research' Symposia Committee. "It will also give the community a chance to see some of the great research being done at Auburn."

The student symposium will include a mentor recognition reception hosted by Auburn University Provost Timothy Boosinger, judging of students' presentations, and opportunities for prospective students and potential employers to view and discuss students' research.

An awards ceremony and reception, hosted by Auburn University Vice President for Research and Economic Development John Mason, will be held April 20 at 5 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom. The keynote speakers will be Frank "Skip" Bartol, associate dean for research and graduate studies at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, and Courtney Ober, senior research and development scientist at Evonik Corp. in Birmingham.

The student research event is one of two new "This is Research" symposia scheduled for 2015. A fall event, "This is Research: Faculty Symposium 2015," is set for Sept. 30 at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.
