Alabama Natural Resources Council to host Outreach Symposium and Awards Banquet Feb. 6

The Alabama Natural Resources Council will host its annual outreach symposium and awards banquet on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center off Interstate 65 north of Montgomery. The public event will provide landowners and professionals across natural resources disciplines with information and also honor those who practice wise stewardship of the state's natural resources.

Beginning at 1 p.m., the symposium will focus on outreach and education, with exhibitors and a slate of speakers on forest and natural resources topics. Among the presentations offered are forestry aspects of the Farm Bill, timber theft and land security, eagles of Alabama and longleaf/loblolly pine comparison. In addition to being helpful for forest landowners, Continuing Forestry Education credits will be offered for forestry professionals.

The awards ceremony will recognize forest landowners and citizens who have contributed significantly toward wise stewardship of Alabama's natural resources. Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey will be the keynote speaker, and among the awards presented will be recognition for outstanding county natural resources councils, Alabama Tree Farm awards, and the evening's highlights, the W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Awards and Helene Mosley Memorial TREASURE Forest Award.

Council members are state leaders of government agencies and private organizations, including the Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, with an interest in forest resources. The council collaboratively develops programs and activities which motivate Alabama landowners, leaders and citizens to be wise stewards of our forests and related sustainable natural resources through the coordinated services and programs available from participating organizations.
