Beginning with the 2024 benefit year, eligible full-time employees of Auburn University will be able to enroll in either a new high deductible health plan, or HDHP, with a health savings account, or HSA, or the current preferred provider organization, or PPO, plan.

As healthcare costs increase, many employees of Auburn and AUM continue to inquire about having more affordable insurance options from which to choose. Additionally, access to an HDHP plan is one of the most requested benefit options. Offering a choice between a PPO and an HDHP plan answered both needs immediately.

More information on HDHP and HSA.

In the next few weeks, employees will have ample opportunities to learn more about the university’s insurance offerings:

• University Human Resources will host town halls and present at governance groups.

• The HDHP website will be updated with relevant and timely information.

• Employees will receive multiple communications before, during, and after Open Enrollment.

• Benefit enrollers will be available to assist employees during Open Enrollment.

Auburn University will not provide specific advice or recommendations on whether an employee should choose an HDHP or PPO plan. Information will be shared so each employee can make an informed decision based on their individual needs and circumstances.
