Beginning in August, a College of Nursing student-led project will offer classes for two different age groups related to babysitting and caring for siblings safely.

The Safe Sitter classes on Aug. 27 for kids entering grades 4-8 will prepare them to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting.

Students entering grades 4-6 learn how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. They will also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses. The class will be from 1:00-2:30 p.m.

For students entering grades 6-8, the class will cover life-saving skills such as CPR and helping choking victims. The class will be from 3-7 p.m.
