The Davis Arboretum is hosting the North American Open Master’s (NAOM) tree climbing competition this weekend. NAOM is a professional tree climbing competition for climbers from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and surrounding countries.

It provides a competitive and educational opportunity for working arborists in North America to demonstrate and exchange new climbing techniques and equipment, as well as safe work practices. The climbers will compete in a variety of events ranging from speed climbs, speed descent, rescue climbing, throw line and more. The competitors are all professionals and have to compete in other ISA-sanctioned competitions to qualify for this event.

The event will begin on Thursday, May 25, with a day of demonstrations and educational workshops from 1-4 p.m. which will be open to the public and Auburn University students to attend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be competition days for the professionals, and the public will be invited to watch as they climb.

Parking will be available along Garden Drive, Lem Morrison Drive, the Poultry Science parking lot, South Quad Deck and the Auburn Church of Christ parking lot on South College. For more information or questions regarding this event email arbinfo@auburn.edu.
