April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. As part of the Youth Protection Program’s mission to promote a safe and healthy environment for children participating in the wide variety of youth programs the university sponsors, a new Youth Protection eLearning course is available via ElevatED. The course is designed to help employees who interact with minors know how to recognize, report and prevent child abuse.

ElevatED can be accessed through AU Access. Search for course CR506E Youth Protection.

All Auburn University employees are mandatory reporters of child abuse and neglect. Please take a moment to review the Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect Policy. If you know or have reasonable cause to suspect that child abuse or neglect has occurred, follow these steps:

If a child is in imminent danger:

1. Call 911.

2. Call Campus Safety & Security (334-750-9795) immediately thereafter.

3. Inform your supervisor.

In situations where a child is not in imminent danger:

1. Report the information to the Department of Human Resources by phone.

2. Follow the phone call with a written report.

3. Call Campus Safety & Security (334-750-9795).

4. Inform your supervisor.

For questions or more information on mandatory reporting responsibilities or youth protection, contact the Youth Protection Program at 334-844-2626 or youthprotection@auburn.edu.
