Prominent forester and social media figure Kyle Lybarger will visit campus on April 13 in Comer Hall room 207 at 11 a.m. Lybarger will discuss his work with Alabama wildlife exploration and conservation. The event is open to all, and pizza will be provided.

With more than 410,000 followers on TikTok and 198,000 followers on Instagram, Lybarger is known by his handles, @NativeHabitatProject and @nativeplanttok. Lybarger uses his platforms to explore Alabama and to promote native plants and grassland conservation.

His exploration led him to be the first known person to find purple milkweed in Alabama and the first to document Durand Oak, a plant that typically thrives in prairies. His findings have helped restore a number of Alabama’s dwindling grasslands.

As his social media following started to increase, the Alabama A&M alum co-founded the Native Habitat Project with Auburn agricultural economics alumnus Alan Summerford and Auburn environmental engineering alumnus Jake Brown.

The Native Habitat Project strives to support habitat restoration efforts across Alabama. It provides services, such as property consultations, native plantings, wildlife management plans, forestry consulting, prescribed burning and brand partnerships.
