OLLI at Auburn presenting 'Clash of the Titans' with Abra Lee

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University, or OLLI, welcomes horticulturalist and historian Abra Lee for "Clash of the Titans" on Thursday, April 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill. Lee delves into the complicated relationship between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois and discusses their influence on the legends of American horticulture. This lecture is free and open to the public thanks in part to a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts. A reception will follow.

Lee graduated from Auburn University with a degree in ornamental horticulture. She has worked as landscape manager and horticulturalist for two international airports and was the 2019-20 Longwood Gardens fellow. Today, she is a freelance horticultural writer and lecturer for institutions such as the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Centre and Smithsonian Gardens. As founder of the social media platform Conquer the Soil, she raises horticultural awareness through Black garden history and current events. Her upcoming book is Conquer the Soil: Black America and the Untold Stories of Our Country's Gardeners, Farmers, and Growers.
