WEGL 91.1, Eagle Eye honored by Alabama Broadcasters Association and intercollegiate Broadcast Systems

Both WEGL 91.1 and Eagle Eye TV won awards from the Alabama Broadcasters Association and the intercollegiate Broadcast Systems. 

The ABBY Awards are hosted by the Alabama Broadcasters Association and over 300 radio and television stations compete across the state. WEGL has now won an ABBY four years in a row and senior WEGL student, Aidan Kowalski, has won three of the last four years.

WEGL’s wins were:

· ABBY award for Small Market Radio Station Promotion: “Christmas Block”
· Award of Merit for Small Market Radio Sportscaster: Aidan Kowalsk

In addition to the ABBY Awards, WEGL and Eagle Eye TV were finalists in 14 categories with three first place wins in the Intercollegiate Broadcast System’s, or IBS, awards. College radio and television stations around the world compete in the IBS Awards.

The first place wins are:

  • WEGL, Best Station ID: We Don't Need TV, Logan Huntson
  • WEGL, Best Sports Play-by-Play: Baseball or Softball, Noah Phillips, Griggs Blankenburg, and Carson Way
  • EETV, Best Social Media Director, Taylor Brown
