DREAM-Math is a unique program and opportunity for those with a degree in a STEM discipline to earn a master’s degree and teacher certification. The DREAM-Math program could be a fulfilling career opportunity for anyone with a degree in science, technology, engineering or math, or STEM, or who is a current STEM major graduating in May.

The 2023-2024 cohort begins this summer, and April 15 is the application deadline.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the Developing, Recruiting and Empowering Alabama Mathematics Teachers, or DREAM-Math, project provides more than $30,000 in financial support as participants complete a special 14-month master’s degree in secondary mathematics education, designed to prepare them to be a mathematics teacher. Following completion of the degree, they will receive a $10,000 annual stipend and valuable professional development as they complete the first four years of their teaching career in a high-need school where they can most make a difference.

DREAM-Math streamlines the process and removes roadblocks for people interested in becoming mathematics teachers, and it is a collaborative effort between Auburn University’s College of Education, College of Sciences and Mathematics, Tuskegee University and other partners throughout the state to address the critical shortage of mathematics teachers in Alabama.

The program is for those who have never been teachers but who have earned — or will have earned by May — a STEM degree that includes at least 12-15 hours of mathematics at or above Calculus I.
