During the week of March 13, acclaimed artist Andy Yoder, whose exhibition “Overboard” is currently on view at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, visited the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County, East Samford School and Auburn High School.

During his visits, Yoder met with individual art classes to discuss his distinct cardboard shoe sculptures featured in the museum exhibition and provided hands-on instruction for the students to help them create their own shoes. To close out the week of sneakers, Associate Professor of English Charles Lesh, Associate Professor of Industrial Design Benjamin Bush and Associate Clinical Professor Chris Wilburn joined Yoder for a collaborative presentation at Auburn High School.

The podiatric panel conversed with the high school students about sneakers, including their design, cultural relevance and even the biomechanics of the foot within the sneaker. Because of his school visits and artist presentation at the museum on Thursday, March 16, Yoder’s visit proved to be an educational connector for the local community of all ages.

Anyone interested in watching his presentation’s live recording from March 16 can visit the museum’s YouTube page.
