Decommissioned Tiger Transit bus given new life at university art museum

Last year, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art acquired two decommissioned Tiger Transit buses for its 2021 Tiger Giving Day project, “Museum in Motion.” These buses were purchased with the donated funds to bring art to underserved communities across Alabama, but getting them mission-ready for travel has taken some time.

That did not hinder the project’s goal, as the museum’s education team launched its inaugural project with the Calhoun County school system in January. After much time and with the help of Autosport Bodyworks, one of the near-forgotten buses has been given a new colorful face and is almost ready to trek across the state.

The next step involves refurbishing the interior to allow for the safe transportation of artwork and other supplies that might be needed for the museum’s next mission. Anyone interested in staying updated on “Museum in Motion” can follow the museum on Instagram and Facebook.
