On March 8, Auburn and people around the world will celebrate Holi, the incredibly popular “Festival of Colors” or “Festival of Love.”

Holi is one of the most celebrated festivals in India, and it is considered a most joyous holiday. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring and the passing of winter, as well as the triumph of good over evil.

With roots in Hinduism, the Indian holiday has been celebrated for more than 1,600 years. It’s appeal has spread, and now other parts of South Asia, the United States and countries around the world celebrate it each year. As the name “Festival of Colors” would suggest, the holiday is celebrated with long festivals where participants toss colors at each other.

In past years, Auburn has been proud to host expansive Holi celebrations with significant student participation and engagement. The Auburn Family is invited to learn more by getting involved with the Cross Cultural Center for Excellence and the Indian Student Organization.

This year, the celebration will be hosted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, on the Campus Green. For more information about this year’s celebration, please visit AUinvolve or the Campus Event Calendar.
