Auburn University Libraries’ next Discover Auburn lecture will feature Adam Jortner, Goodwin-Philpott Professor of Religion, History Department, speaking on his latest book “No Place for Saints: Mobs and Mormons in Jacksonian America.” The program will be presented on Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. in the Caroline Marshall Draughon Auditorium on the ground floor of the Ralph Brown Draughon Library.

Jortner’s book follows the Mormon church from its beginning through its expulsion from the state of Missouri in the mid-1830s and argues how Mormonism and violent anti-Mormonism shaped American religious history. The book explores themes of religious liberty, religious hatred and how different faiths interact in American history.

The Mormon History Association honored Jortner’s book with its annual Best Book Award.

The program is open to the public.
