The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art recently launched its newest exhibition outreach initiative, Museum in Motion, an effort funded in part by Tiger Giving Day 2020.

Museum in Motion expands access by bringing innovative art programming to communities across the state. As part of the inaugural program, third and fourth graders in Calhoun County School System’s Gifted Enrichment Program participated in a weeklong workshop at their school with the museum.

Based on the exhibition “Andy Yoder: Overboard,” the museum team developed an animation workshop where students learned about the evolution of the popular art form, highlighting its development from early photography to surrealism to stop-motion. These students will bookend their experience by visiting the museum to tour exhibitions and watch the premiere of their final creations.

Additionally, Museum in Motion will soon feature two repurposed Auburn Transit buses outfitted for travel, as well as further museum encounters. Kickstarting this program would not be possible without the generous investments made by donors on Tiger Giving Day.

Anyone interested can learn more and donate to the museum’s 2023 Tiger Giving Day project, which focuses on funding its new Student Gallery Guides program, at rise.auburn.edu on Feb. 22.
