On Feb. 6, Southeast Turkey and Syria experienced two back-to-back devastating earthquakes with 7.8 and 7.5 magnitudes that resulted in catastrophic building failures in 10 neighboring cities home to more than 13 million people.

The earthquake damage caused nearly 25,000 buildings to collapse, with more than 30,000 casualties and counting, leaving 75,000 injured, with thousands still believed to be under the rubble. With harsh winter conditions in the region, millions displaced from their homes after the earthquake face the danger of death by hypothermia. The vast size of this catastrophe has left Turkish authorities, rescue teams and international aid efforts limited, with a dire need for immediate supplies and funds to procure blankets, tents, heaters, clean water and food for the region.

The Turkish Student Organization, or TSO, at Auburn University encourages the university community to consider donating to the people affected by the earthquakes. TSO is grateful for generous donations made by the university community in supporting students attending Auburn University with families in the affected region.
