While navigating the busy holiday season, the Veterans Resource Center, or VRC, encourages you all to take a moment and remember our servicemen and servicewomen who are both here in the states and deployed far away from their families. Furthermore, we ask you all to remember our veterans here at home and across the country who have served honorably and made the decision to hang up their boots and transition to life in the civilian sector.

The military provides its servicemembers with an extensive network of resources, however, the military does not teach these men and women how to rebuild that network upon separation. Many of our brothers and sisters are struggling with isolation following their service, and this is even more true during the holiday season.

This year, the VRC is extending a challenge to the Auburn Family: Connect with a veteran in your community over the holiday season and ensure they have someone to be with over the holidays. Something as small as a phone call or shared meal could make all the difference.

To our fellow veterans, thank you. Each of you raised your right hand to serve your country and now that you have fulfilled that oath, it is the duty of every citizen to ensure you and your families are taken care of. Many of us are fighting an invisible battle that others know nothing about. No one can promise that these struggles will go away today, tomorrow, or any time soon, however, we can, and we do promise that you do not have to face them alone.

The Auburn University VRC is committed to ensuring that every veteran makes the transition from the battlefield to home in Auburn as smooth as possible. If you or a fellow veteran is struggling, the VRC welcomes you to contact us anytime over the holidays at 205-617-9422 or at czp0036@auburn.edu. If you find yourself overwhelmed and need confidential emotional support, you can call or text 988 to get immediate assistance.

To the Auburn Family, let's stand together this holiday season to lift up those who have done so much for our community and our country. Thank you all for your support of our veterans.
