Volunteer opportunities to remove invasive plants near Chewacla State Park are available on two Saturdays, Oct. 22 and Nov. 5, from 8 a.m.–noon. Volunteers will work alongside trained staff and City of Auburn Tree Commission members to learn to identify and properly remove common invasives including privet, Elaeagnus, Callery pear, chinaberry, mimosa and other common problem plants. Students logging volunteer hours can sign up on the Office of Sustainability’s GivePulse. Registering ahead of time is not required but appreciated to ensure sufficient tools. For more information visit the City of Auburn’s Invasive Species Removal page.
