On Aug. 31, the Office of International Programs hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the opening of the Auburn University-National Cheng Kung University Taiwan Center of Chinese Language and Culture. President Christopher B. Roberts, Interim Provost Vini Nathan, NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su and other distinguished guests from the NCKU and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta attended the ceremony and shared remarks to commemorate the occasion. The AU-NCKU Taiwan Center of Chinese Language and Culture is an outcome of a joint agreement signed in September between Auburn, NCKU and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta. The goal of the Center is to promote joint educational and cultural collaboration, and in turn, establish a long-lasting friendship and cooperative partnership that enhances the educational experience at Auburn and NCKU. Specifically, the Center will support the study of Mandarin and English by students of the respective institutions through faculty and student exchange while also offering cultural courses and programming at both campuses.“This is one of our partnerships that will address the goals of our University Strategic Plan and the University Strategic Internationalization Plan, strengthening high-impact teaching practices and providing for post-graduation employment for our students,” said Andrew Gillespie, assistant provost for international programs. “With regard to our students, Auburn is well on its way to producing global citizens.”Thank you to the Auburn faculty, staff and students that attended the ceremony and expressed a deep desire to cultivate cultural collaboration through active internationalization efforts. It is through partnerships such as this that Auburn increases its global footprint and enhances the academic and practical experiences of the Auburn Family. To learn more about the Office of International Programs and its internationalization efforts, visit auburn.edu/international.
