Gay Street, Samford Avenue lane closures expected Aug. 30-31

Lane closures are expected at the intersection of Gay Street and Samford Avenue next week as the city continues work on the South College Street, Samford Avenue, South Gay Street improvements project. The contractor will be working on a water line Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 30-31. The following traffic impacts are expected during this time:

  • The eastbound lane of Samford Avenue will be closed to through traffic between College and Gay streets. Traffic will be detoured via College to Reese Avenue, Reese to Gay and Gay back to Samford.

  • The southbound lane of Gay Street will be closed to through traffic at the intersection of Samford Avenue. Traffic will be detoured from Gay to Samford, Samford to College, College to Reese and Reese back to Gay.

  • The left turn lane from Samford Avenue heading south onto Gay Street will be closed. Traffic will be detoured via College to Reese and Reese back to Gay.

All other lanes of traffic will remain open, and all businesses and Auburn University parking in the area will remain accessible.

Work is expected to take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. both days, and all lanes will reopen to traffic after 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
