Miller Writing Center awarded CARE certification from Southeastern Writing Centers Association

The Miller Writing Center, or MWC, has received the Southeastern Writing Center Association's, or SWCA, Center Acknowledgement and Recognition of Excellence, or CARE, certification. This award recognizes excellence in staff training, student services and institutional support for writing centers.

In an award letter, Candis Bond and Jennifer Smith Daniel of the SWCA praised the MWC's "broad scope of services and its commitment to balancing the needs of writers and university-wide initiatives." Additionally, they noted the MWC's use of ePortfolios in staff training, as well as efforts "to not only serve diverse students, including students of color and students with disabilities, but also to recruit, hire and retain a diverse staff."

The MWC will be recognized at the 2023 SWCA conference and will receive Center Innovation Funds to promote professional development and continued enhancement of center initiatives.
