“We believe in work, yard work!” is the motto that leads the way of The BIG Event, a one-day student led service project.

This year’s event was held Saturday, March 26, and 657 volunteers dispersed to 142 jobsites across the Auburn and Opelika communities completing 3,213 hours of service.

The BIG Event began in 2003 and serves as an opportunity for students to thank the community for making Auburn a great place to live during their time on the Plains. Students perform basic community service tasks at businesses, churches, households and organizations.

“Through the BIG Event, I have experienced students' dedication to the Auburn Family and the town that welcomes every single one of us with open arms,” president of The BIG Event Julia Palazzolo said. “Hundreds of Auburn students chose to wake up early on a Saturday morning and for the next few hours, complete yard work for residents in the Auburn area. A Saturday that could have been spent sleeping in or studying, these students choose to exemplify what an Auburn man or woman is made of: hard work and yard work that cultivate sympathy through the human touch.”
