New faculty initiative to promote artificial intelligence across the curriculum; faculty invited to register for SEC Mini-Conference

As part of a new consortium designed to advance the role of artificial intelligence, or AI, in teaching and research, the Southeastern Conference, or SEC, is inviting faculty from its 14-member institutions to participate in the first Mini-Conference on Artificial Intelligence in the Curriculum on Friday, April 8. Hosted by the University of Florida, the free conference will be held from 12–3 CST via Zoom.

With AI becoming more integrated among business and industry sectors, many universities are now utilizing the advanced technology outside of traditional disciplines. In addition to sharing ideas and networking across SEC institutions, the conference will invite faculty to engage in broader discussions and breakout sessions to discuss trends among 13 broad disciplines ranging from the arts and humanities to business, engineering, agriculture, education and law. The conference will include an introduction, a keynote address from Ned Finkle, Vice President of External Affairs for multinational technology company NVIDIA, and three short talks from SEC faculty teaching AI in addition to the breakouts. Any faculty interested in integrating AI in their research and teaching are strongly encouraged to register for the conference.

As part of Auburn’s role in supporting the consortium, the university has established a new initiative, AI@AU, designed to bring together faculty from across campus interested in using AI in their research and instruction. Open to faculty from all disciplines, the initiative will focus on establishing a computational resource for AI-related research and scholarship available to Auburn stakeholders while also exploring new educational initiatives.
