The university has recently updated its travel guidance for both domestic and international travel. For additional information, including requirements after returning to Auburn from domestic and international travel, click here.

The university continues to closely monitor the ongoing effects of COVID-19 to the campus community. Although the United States has recently experienced a decrease in new COVID-19 cases and positivity rates, and an increase in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccination, COVID-19 continues to present a global health risk that must be taken seriously. For the foreseeable future, the global pandemic will continue to affect the safety and feasibility of travel. If you plan to travel outside of the United States, including during spring break, please make sure to keep abreast of the most up-to-date travel requirements for your destination and your return to the United States.

Faculty, staff and students travelling domestically or internationally should be aware of the following before departure:

  • Make sure you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccine and/or booster.

  • Before you travel outside of the United States, including during spring break, reference the COVID-19 Travel Recommendations by Destination and keep abreast of the most up-to-date travel requirements for your destination and your return to the United States.

  • For domestic travel check your destination’s COVID-19 situation before traveling.

  • Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required in indoor areas of public transportation (including airplanes) traveling into, within, or out of the United States and indoors in U.S. transportation hubs (including airports).

  • If traveling by air, check if your airline requires any testing, vaccination, or other documents.

  • When you travel to the United States by air, you are required to show a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 1 day before travel, or documentation of recovery from COVID-19, before you board your flight.

Faculty, staff and students returning to Auburn from international travel (business or personal) should do one of the following, depending on vaccination status:

1. If you are fully vaccinated within the last 6 months or you are fully vaccinated and have received    your booster:

  • No quarantine is required unless you develop symptoms.

  • Consider getting tested 5 days after you return from travel.

  • Watch for symptoms until 10 days after your travel.

  • If you develop symptomsisolate immediately and get tested. Continue to stay home until you know the results.

2. If you are NOT vaccinated or up to date with your COVID-19 vaccine or booster you are recommended to:

  • Stay home and self-quarantine for a full 5 days after travel.

  • Consider getting tested 5 days after you return from travel.

  • Watch for symptoms until 10 days after your travel.

  • If you develop symptomsisolate immediately and get tested. Continue to stay home until you know the results.

3. If you recovered from COVID-19 recently:

If you recovered from a documented COVID-19 infection within the past 90 days (regardless of vaccination status), you do NOT need to get a test 3-5 days after travel. You also do not need to self-quarantine after travel. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms after travel, isolate and consult with a healthcare provider for testing recommendations.
