The university is closely monitoring emerging information on the Omicron variant, categorized as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization. Currently, there is limited information with regard to the ease of its transmission, whether it causes more severe illness, or whether it compromises the protection from current vaccines. If you plan to travel outside of the United States, including during the winter break, please make sure to keep abreast of the most up-to-date travel requirements for your destination and your return to the United States. Depending on where you go and what restrictions may be imposed, you could face the risk of being unable to return to the United States as scheduled.

Faculty, staff and students returning to Auburn from international travel (business or personal), including international students arriving prior to the start of the spring 2022 Semester, must do one of the following regardless of vaccination status:

  1. Quarantine for 10 days before returning to campus, or

  2. Receive both of the following:

    • A polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, test on day 3 after arrival, and

    • A rapid antigen test on day 5 after arrival.

The individual must quarantine until receipt of a negative result on both tests and the individual is not showing symptoms of COVID-19. The individual may return to campus only if both tests are negative. The individual should continue to self-monitor for symptoms for 14 days and seek medical care and COVID-19 testing if symptoms develop.

If either test result is positive, the individual should isolate themselves to protect others from getting infected.

Testing is available from the Auburn University Medical Clinic. Employees should contact their supervisor for further guidance on returning to work. Students should contact their academic unit.

Travel requirements to enter the United States are changing and can be found on the CDC’s International Travel page.

Auburn University is closely monitoring local, regional, national and global trends related to COVID-19 and will continue to do so based on  appropriate federal and State of Alabama guidelines and restrictions, as well as the best medical advice available.
