Audiology program featured on APT as part of STEM careers spotlight

The Auburn University Audiology program was recently featured as part of Alabama Public Television's segment on sound and waves. An action-packed series featuring science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, experiments and explorations led by a team of Alabama STEM educators and youth hosts. Episodes feature both STEM demonstrations and spotlights on professionals working in STEM careers in Alabama.

Audiologists are health-care professionals who evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage hearing loss and balance disorders. Dr. Sridhar Krishnamurti, professor of audiology in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences was interviewed about audiology. He talked about the importance of providing hearing services to people who are experiencing hearing loss.

"We look beyond the ear drum and check the nerve and the bones to see if there's any damage," Krishnamurti said. "The field of audiology is growing, especially in the past year since we are seeing more older people with hearing loss and cognitive decline."

The STEM Council, in partnership with HudsonAlpha, Southern Research and others, is leading the production of the 26-episode TV series to air on Alabama Public Television, which began in October 2021. The target audience for this series is middle school students, and each segment has a career spotlight focused on an Alabama STEM Industry.
