Music major crowned Miss South Carolina, will compete in Miss America
Julia Herrin, a Bluffton, South Carolina native and a music major at Auburn, is the 84th Miss South Carolina. Miss South Carolina serves as an official state preliminary to the Miss America Pageant.
"Being Miss South Carolina has been a dream of mine for so many years," Herrin said on her social media accounts. "Competing in Miss America gave me the confidence to pursue a degree in piano performance at Auburn,"
Herrin was one of over 40 contestants in the competition. She won the talent portion of the contest with her performance of the third movement of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” on piano.
"I worked all semester on this with my encouraging professors and practicing on instruments that are part of the All Auburn All Steinway initiative," Herrin said.
The Miss America competition will take place in Connecticut, and is scheduled to be broadcast live in December.
