Office of Inclusion and Diversity to host First Gen Celebration Week Nov. 2-6

Auburn University’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity, or OID, will host First Gen Celebration Week, a weeklong array of activities honoring first-generation students, Nov. 2-6.

The special week will include leadership presentations, a welcome session for first-generation students and their families and interview opportunities for students. Its goal is to highlight and celebrate students who are breaking new ground as the first individuals in their families to attend college.

In addition, Auburn faculty and staff is encouraged to attend OID’s T1GER Network Overview session on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at noon. Auburn faculty and staff also may spotlight first-generation students, alumni, faculty and staff in their colleges on social media, and OID will share marketing items that can be utilized to highlight those individuals.

First Gen Celebration Week schedule

  • Monday, Nov. 2
    • Translating student leadership skills to transferable skills
      • Time: 5:30-6:30 p.m.
      • Description: This presentation will provide students with insight into the nuances of framing their on-campus leadership skills during the interview process. The goal of this session is to provide students with a tangible pathway for articulating transferable skills.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 4
    • T1GER Network faculty & staff overview
      • Time: Noon-1 p.m.
      • Description: The T1GER Network is a collective of Auburn faculty and staff who are committed to supporting first-generation students at Auburn. This session will provide attendees with important information related to the first-generation student experience at Auburn while offering recommendations for how their unit or team can best support students across campus.

    • Navigate first-gen student & family session
    • Altria Interview Day
      • Time: All day
      • Description: Altria is offering on-campus, virtual interviews specifically for students who are a part of the first-gen network. Any students who are interested in pursuing a career in sales are encouraged to take advantage of this special interview opportunity.

  • Friday, Nov. 6
    • First-gen celebration lunch & learn
      • Time: Noon-1 p.m.
      • Description: This session offers attendees greater insight into Auburn’s T1GER Network. Students who identify as first-generation on our campus will be celebrated during this time.
