Liberal Arts awards three professors with prestigious research and teaching recognitions

The College of Liberal Arts recently awarded three professors with prestigious research and teaching recognitions.

Steven Brown, a professor in the Department of Political Science, was named the inaugural Morris Savage Endowed Chair. Brown’s research focuses on church and state issues and American legal history. He teaches courses in American constitutional law, religion and politics, law and society and American government.

Cate Giustino, a professor in the Department of History, was awarded the College of Liberal Arts Endowed Prestigious Research Professorship. Giustino researches the history of the politics of culture in modern Central and Eastern Europe. She was a 2017 Carnegie Fellow and an Auburn University Creative Research Scholar in 2018.

Iulia Pittman, an associate professor of German, was named a Castanoli Scholar in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Pittman’s research interests include code-switching, bilingualism, pronunciation issues in foreign language learning, technology in foreign language teaching, dialects and business German. She also serves as the program coordinator for elementary and intermediate German.
