Swagata Chakraborty, doctoral candidate in the College of Human Sciences’ Department of Consumer and Design Sciences, has been awarded the Sara Douglas Fellowship for Professional Promise from the International Textile and Apparel Association, or ITAA.

The mission of ITAA is to advance excellence in education, scholarship and innovation and their global applications. The Sara Douglas Fellowship recognizes just two Master’s and two doctoral students across the country each year.

“This award recognizes students who display excellence in their work, unmatched commitment to the field and unlimited potential to succeed," said Pam Ulrich, head of the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences. “Having a student, particularly a doctoral candidate, awarded this honor reflects Swagata’s dedication, the strength of our program and the mentorship of our faculty.

“We could not be more proud of her accomplishments and look forward to the great things yet to come from Swagata.”

Earlier this year, Chakraborty also received the Omicron Nu Fellowship from Kappa Omicron Nu, the national honor society for the human sciences, and placed first in graduate student awards in human sciences, social sciences, creative arts and humanities during the 2020 Auburn Research Student Symposium.
