Sarah Reese-Burney, a long-time University Outreach program coordinator and continuing education, or CEU, manager in the Office of Public Service, is retiring from Auburn on June 30 after more than 36 years of service.

A lifelong-resident of Opelika, Reese-Burney is a graduate of Opelika High School and later earned her bachelors and MBA degrees from Phoenix University. In 1983, she joined the staff of Auburn University in the Department of Botany and Microbiology. She was hired by University Outreach in 1993 as an administrative assistant for the newly formed Office of Outreach Information. In that role, Reese-Burney organized the records management and cross-referencing system still in use today for non-credit programs and CEU certifications across campus.

Over the years, her role expanded in the office to include being responsible for CEU transcript management, overseeing archives and providing public information on Outreach’s wide variety of program offerings.

“Sarah’s great strength is customer service and a cheerful spirit,” said Ralph Foster, assistant vice president for University Outreach and Public Service. “Clients and coworkers alike consistently cited Sarah for her helpfulness and responsiveness, which is a wonderful legacy for her outstanding career.”

Reese-Burney, who has three daughters, Sajata, Whitney and Jalesha, and two grandchildren, Joshua and Jayden, and many other relatives in the East Alabama, will reside in Opelika.
