Museum lecture to kick off new exhibition combining visual art and science

The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, in partnership with the Department of Geosciences at Auburn University, will be presenting a lecture at noon on March 4 on AmericaView. Chandana Mitra, associate professor in the Department of Geosciences at Auburn, and her colleague Brent Yantis, director of the NASA/University of Louisiana at Lafayette Regional Application Center will be speaking. Mitra and Yantis will introduce the audience to AmericaView, the nationwide consortium promoting geography awareness and planetary change through geoscience. The speakers will also discuss their work utilizing remote sensing applications to map drought, urban tree canopies, air pollution and sustainability efforts.

Attendees of the lecture are invited to explore the captivating satellite images of Alabama and the globe in the new exhibition, "Mother Earth as Art," an intersection of visual art and technology, on view March 3 to April 26 in the Corridor Gallery. The Museum Café will be serving lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
