Office of International Programs partnering with MojoChat to offer conversational English learning tool

Mojo@AU Conversational English Program is a collaboration between the Office of International Programs and MojoChat to help international students improve their conversational skills and engage more comfortably on Auburn’s campus. In addition, the program is looking for fluent English-speaking students to mentor and engage with international students while getting paid to help them improve their language proficiency.

“The Office of International Programs is thrilled to be partnering with MojoChat to offer international and domestic students the opportunity to engage with one another through peer-to-peer conversations,” said Andrew Gillespie, assistant provost for international programs. “Our goal for this program is to help our international students become more confident in their English-speaking skills, and thereby more comfortable engaging with campus life, while also increasing our domestic students’ interaction with the international student population.”

International students interested in taking advantage of this service can purchase their peer-to-peer conversational English practice in 30-minute increments with a cap of 90 minutes per session. The cost per 30-minute session is $12.50 of which the Office of International Programs will cover 80 percent, leaving students to pay $2.50. The financial support provided by the Office of International Programs is capped at $20,000 for the first year. Native English-speaking students interested in helping international students become more language proficient can mentor with MojoChat and earn up to $14 an hour on their own schedule while sharing their native culture and interests with their peers. Mentoring with MojoChat also provides students with the opportunity to build their resume and global competencies, making them more marketable to prospective employers.
