The project, which began during the holiday break, will expand utilities from West Thach Avenue across College Street in preparation for construction of the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, as well as future infrastructure expansion projects as needed.

Vehicle and pedestrian impacts that go into effect the first week of February include:

  • The two northbound lanes and sidewalk in front of the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center will close for sidewalk and utility construction. Northbound traffic will be maintained and shifted to the existing left turn lane. Motorists should expect lane shifts during this time along South College Street.

  • The main vehicle entrance to the hotel will temporarily close. Visitors can access the hotel, restaurants and conference center parking via the entrance to the South College Street parking deck.

  • The sidewalk on East Thach Avenue along the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center construction site will be closed. Pedestrians walking to and from campus via South Gay Street are encouraged to walk along the north side of East Thach Avenue, next to the chapel.

  • West Thach Avenue transitioned to a one-way street on Jan. 6 with the closure of the eastbound lane. This lane will remain closed through March as utility installation continues. During this time, vehicles can continue to enter Ross Square via South College Street but will need to exit using Engineering Drive to access Magnolia Avenue.

  • The Mary Martin Hall parking lot is now open.

Other lane closures and transitions will begin in late February on East Thach Avenue. Information regarding these closures will be communicated soon.

The latest detailed closure map can be found on the Facilities Management Temporary Road and Facilities Closure page.

Completion of the utilities expansion project is scheduled for later this summer.
