The Raymond J. Harbert College of Business is extending the application deadline for the summer study abroad program to Feb 28. In one summer, students can visit two countries, Spain and Italy, and earn a business minor (15 hours) for half the cost of a full semester at Auburn.

Information sessions will be held at Horton-Hardgrave Hall on Jan. 23 from:

  • 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. (minors)

  • 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (majors)

The program’s total cost is about $13,500. This includes all fees for 15 credit hours, transportation, housing, food, cultural visits and spending money. The courses are accounting, finance, marketing, management, economics and international business. Courses are taught by Auburn University faculty who travel abroad to teach these classes.

The program allows students to focus on one course at a time. After spending four weeks and completing two classes in Barcelona, Spain, the cohort will move to Rome, Italy. Once in Italy, students will have a week-long break to refresh and travel. Students will then spend the last four weeks completing two additional classes one at a time before returning home. The last class is delivered online from an award-winning finance professor.

“Regardless of your major, business skills will open many doors for you,” said Danny Butler, associate dean of global programs. “I went on a study abroad program when I was a student at the University of Central Florida. That study abroad program changed my life.”

“I have been a part of the team that began the Harbert study abroad program in 1997. We have offered programs continuously for business majors since then. Given our focus on safety first and a history of delivering excellent academic content, we were asked to offer a business minor abroad. This minor has the same high regard for student safety, academic quality, program enthusiasm, learning outcomes and transformative experiences for non-business majors,” said Butler.

“We began this program in 2019 with 37 students. We are proud to offer this opportunity again in 2020. We hope you will consider this opportunity and discuss this with your parents. I believe this opportunity will enhance your overall learning and value your degree and for the out of state students, it will save you a good deal of money.”
