The Student Association for Mentoring, or SAM, is a club that pairs Auburn students with local elementary school students in mentor-mentee relationships. Local guidance counselors select students who could benefit from extra academic support or personal guidance, and members provide this by visiting their mentees at school once a week. Over time, club members are able to promote their mentees' academic, social and emotional growth. SAM also partners with Esperanza House, a local nonprofit that holds an after-school tutoring program for children from low-income Hispanic families.

This club provides students with an opportunity to positively impact a child's life, serve the greater Auburn community and gain hands-on experience working with children. The club accepts new members at the beginning of each semester. If interested, go to AUinvolve for more information and attend one of SAM's two upcoming interest meetings. The meetings will be held on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. in 14 Lowder Business Building and Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in 14 Lowder Business Building.
