Megan Rodgers Good has been named the university’s first director of academic quality and improvement, effective Jan. 15.

In this role, Good will become Auburn University’s liaison to The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, or SACSCOC, the institution’s regional accrediting body. Good will also oversee the institution’s academic program submissions to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and serve on the state-wide Articulation and General Studies Committee. Building on her experience with academic program assessment, Good will also facilitate the Academic Program Review process on behalf of the provost.

“In addition to being an effective administrator, Dr. Good brings a wealth of assessment knowledge and a thorough understanding of accreditation standards and curricular processes to the position,” said Associate Provost for Academic Effectiveness Norman Godwin. “The next few years present a critical time for our campus as we prepare for the reaffirmation of our accreditation in 2023.”

Good joined Auburn in 2015 as the director of the Office of Academic Assessment. In this role, she has led and managed the institution’s academic assessment processes while advancing the university’s efforts to achieve continuous improvement of student learning. Working with campus partners, Good and her staff developed two important assessment innovations. First, she established summer assessment institutes, where numerous faculty members have been trained to provide peer-to-peer feedback on academic program assessments. Next came the Student Core Outcomes and Readiness Evaluation, or SCORE, which provides direct information on the extent to which Auburn students are achieving the university’s general education learning goals.

National recognition for the unit’s efforts came in fall 2019 when Auburn received the Excellence in Assessment designation from the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment. The designation placed Auburn among an elite group of educational institutions nationally recognized for excellence in assessment and commitment to improving student outcomes.

Good looks forward to building on these successes in her new role. “It has been a great honor to work with Auburn faculty on a host of assessment efforts over the past four years,” she said. “I look forward to serving the university in a broader capacity, and I hope to leverage our institution’s external strengths while refining our internal practices to enhance our efficiencies and meet our accreditation standards.”

Good holds a doctorate in assessment and measurement from James Madison University.

Following Good’s appointment, Katie Boyd, associate director in the Office of Academic Assessment, will serve as acting director. Boyd joined the office in 2016 and collaborates with faculty to lead program assessment efforts and learning improvement projects. Boyd earned a doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology from Virginia Tech in 2015.
