Message regarding employee pay, continuation of university operations - March 18, 2020

In addition to its ongoing support of students, Auburn University remains committed to its faculty and staff during this time of uncertainty involving COVID-19—ensuring that all current employees will continue to be paid at their regular rate through the spring term, even if they are unable to perform their normal job responsibilities.

This guidance comes as Auburn continues to conduct full university operations, with the major exceptions of remote instruction, on-campus student housing, on-campus dining, Auburn Libraries and the Recreation and Wellness Center.

While there are those who are able to perform duties remotely from home, Auburn’s operations staff continues to conduct work on campus. Custodial services are ongoing, with an increased emphasis on disinfecting “high-touch surfaces” multiple times throughout the day using cleaning products per Environmental Protection Agency guidance for fighting COVID-19. Campus buildings also remain open during normal work hours, and services such as mail delivery, work orders, preventive maintenance and in-house construction are continuing. Utility operations, trash pickup, landscaping and service support remain underway as does the university’s ongoing construction projects.

Employees who continue to work on campus are being asked to maintain spacing of at least six feet in adherence to social distancing measures, to not congregate and to practice good hygiene. Auburn asks this of the entire Auburn Family as we all can do our part together to help stop the spread and keep our communities safe. As we practice social distancing, Auburn will provide mental and emotional support for its community with Student Counseling and Psychological Services and Health Promotion and Wellness Services offering helpful information about coping during the pandemic. Students can also contact SCPS at 334-844-5123 for crisis support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and employees are encouraged to contact the Employee Assistance Program at (800) 925-5EAP (5327).
